Course grade from categories
Runs in your browser; nothing is sent or stored. Enter weights from your syllabus, they should usually total 100, and the score you carry in each category. Rows left empty are ignored, so an unfinished category can simply be left out while you check the rest.
The weighted sum your syllabus describes
Most syllabi define the grade as percentages: homework 20, quizzes 20, midterm 25, final 35. Your course grade is each category's score times its weight, summed and divided by the weights entered. The tool does exactly that arithmetic, which means it agrees with your instructor's spreadsheet whenever your inputs match the syllabus. When results differ, the cause is almost always a weight or a dropped lowest score rule, not the formula.
Mid semester: reading a grade with categories unfinished
Before the final exists, the honest grade is the weighted average of what is finished. Leave the final's row empty and the tool averages the completed categories only, which answers the real question: how am I doing on work graded so far? Filling the final's row with a guess turns the reading into a scenario, useful too, but label it as one in your head. The two readings answer different questions and mixing them is how students surprise themselves in December.
Dropped scores, extra credit and syllabus quirks
Syllabi carry local rules the calculator cannot guess: the lowest quiz dropped, extra credit capped at five points, participation graded by attendance. Handle them at input time: enter the quiz average after the drop, add capped extra credit to its category's score. The tool computes the arithmetic; the syllabus stays the authority on what enters it. When a rule is ambiguous, the instructor's answer beats any calculator's assumption, including this one's.
From current grade to target: the next question

What if a category is not graded yet?

My result differs from my instructor's gradebook. Why?

Do the weights have to total 100?
They usually do on a syllabus; the tool divides by the weights you enter, so partial sets still read correctly as a weighted average.
