Plate boundaries are event generators, one type per event set
Divergent boundaries open ridges and rift valleys; convergent ones build mountains, trenches and volcanic arcs; transform faults store and release earthquake stress. Plate tectonics is why the Pacific rim is a ring of fire and why quake maps trace plate edges. Given a hazard map, name the boundary type first.
Soil is an interface with measurable properties
Soil forms from weathered rock and organic matter over long time, layered into horizons. Texture, the sand, silt and clay proportions, sets the trade off the exam loves: clay holds water and drains badly, sand drains fast and holds little, loam balances both. Porosity, permeability and water holding capacity are the vocabulary the data questions use.
The atmosphere is layered by temperature, and two layers matter
The troposphere holds weather and most of the air's mass; above it the stratosphere carries the ozone layer, which absorbs ultraviolet radiation. Temperature falls with height, then rises again where ozone absorbs. Questions about where weather happens and where the ozone question belongs are answered by naming those two layers correctly.
Circulation cells park climates at fixed latitudes
Warm equatorial air rises, rains out, and descends dry near thirty degrees, which is where the world's great deserts sit. The Coriolis effect bends the surface returns into trade winds and westerlies. That machinery, cells plus deflection, explains climate bands better than any memorised list of biome locations, and the exam asks for the machinery.
El Nino is the disruption case, so learn the off switch
In an El Nino year the trade winds weaken, warm water sloshes east, and the upwelling that feeds Peru's fishery shuts down; weather patterns shift across continents. La Nina strengthens the same machinery. Exam prompts give one link of that chain and expect the rest recited in order.
