The commons explains the pattern before any practice
The tragedy of the commons names the unit's engine: each herder, boat or well owner captures the whole gain of one more use while the cost spreads across everyone, so shared pastures, fisheries and aquifers erode without agreed limits. Most of humanity's freshwater withdrawal goes to agriculture. Flood methods waterlog root zones, and evaporation leaves dissolved salts behind: salinization that eventually poisons the field that irrigation made productive. The pesticide treadmill runs on resistance
Broad spraying kills the susceptible pests and leaves the resistant to breed, so each season needs more or newer chemistry: a treadmill. Integrated pest management steps off it by layering monitoring, thresholds, crop rotation and biological controls, reaching for chemicals last and narrowly. Cities seal the ground, and the sustainable column answers
Pavement and roofs are impervious: rain that soil would absorb becomes fast runoff carrying oil, metals and heat into streams. The unit's remedy column runs from permeable surfaces and green roofs through crop rotation, contour ploughing, no till farming, rotational grazing and aquaculture done carefully. The scored skill is matching each remedy to the specific consequence it answers, not reciting the list.
