Why printed pages convert to cards so cleanly

Textbook prose is denser in liftable facts than almost anything else you study: bolded terms with definitions, dates pinned to events, laws stated in one sentence. Each is already card shaped, one prompt, one answer, so the conversion loses little. Narrative passages and worked arguments convert less directly, and that is fine: cards are for the facts; the argument's shape belongs to a summary instead.

Shooting a page so its facts survive

Fill the frame with the one page, shoot straight on rather than at an angle, and mind the gutter shadow on bound books, the curve near the spine is where characters smear. Daylight beats lamp glare on glossy paper. One clean page photographed twice costs nothing; forty pages in one frame costs everything, because resolution spreads thin and the small print that holds the definitions goes first.

One fact per card, and the app enforces it

The classic self made card fails by overstuffing: front says "enzymes", back holds a paragraph.
