Humanism is a method before it is a mood
Humanism meant going back to classical texts in their original languages and reading them critically. That is a technique, and its consequences were political: a scholar who could show a document was a forgery had a tool nobody had needed before. Treating humanism as an attitude rather than a method loses the causal thread the exam wants.
The press mattered because disagreement became durable
The printing press did not only spread ideas faster; it made a position permanent and comparable. Two incompatible accounts could now sit on the same shelf. That is why it belongs in answers about religion and politics rather than only in answers about literacy.
Patronage is an economic fact, not a footnote
Art was commissioned, and commissioning bought status. Recognising that a painting is evidence about its patron as much as about its painter is what turns a description of a work into an argument about a society. Document based questions in this period reward that move consistently.
Exploration was a fiscal decision
Rulers backed voyages for revenue and prestige, not curiosity. American silver then expanded the money supply and contributed to a long rise in prices, which is one of the few places in the unit where a clean economic mechanism is available. Use it: examiners reward mechanisms over adjectives.
