Image first: the atlas page is the deck's spine

An anatomy card that asks where the scaphoid sits deserves a picture to point at. Photograph the atlas page or your lab manual's figure and build label cards from it: the structure marked, the name retrieved. The photo route's honest limit applies, labels convert cleanly while unlabeled relations need your sentence, but in anatomy the labels are half the course, and a deck whose fronts carry images tests the skill the practical exam actually grades.

The muscle triad: origin, insertion, action

The field settled its muscle card format long ago: one muscle, three facts, origin, insertion, action, with innervation as the fourth when the course demands it. Keep the triad on one card only while the muscle is new; split it once reviews show one leg failing, the action remembered, the origin gone. Biceps brachii: flexes the elbow and supinates, and the supination half is the exam's favorite corner of it.

Nerve territory cards: the injury question in reverse

Clinical anatomy asks damage questions: cut this nerve, what stops working? Card territories in both directions, nerve to muscles and skin it serves, deficit back to nerve, because exams come from both ends. The phrenic nerve card that only says diaphragm misses the reverse form: breathing paralysis on one side points where? Both directions on the schedule make the clinical vignettes feel like lookups.

Relations and contents: what travels together

Anatomy's hardest questions are neighborhood questions: what runs through the carotid sheath, what passes the cubital fossa, what does the femoral triangle contain. Contents lists card as ordered sets, front names the space, back lists the contents in their arrangement, and they benefit from the one overview plus split cards approach: the full list on one card, each member's why on its own. These are also the cards that pay twice, in written exams and over a cadaver.

Volume habits: systems in, regions in, both drilled

Courses teach anatomy by system or by region, and exams often ask across the split: the arm's nerves in the regional week, the nervous system's arm in the systems week. Tag cards with both, region and system, so either exam's slice can be drilled from the same deck. Volume is high and steady; the schedule is what keeps the pelvis warm during the thorax weeks, exactly the medical student's problem from the volume playbook.
